FAQ’s

frequently asked questions

No, you do not need a referral to book an appointment at Unity Health Imaging. Our services are open to everyone, including those without health insurance. You can schedule your Imaging ultrasound directly through our website or by calling our office

At Unity Health Imagining , we want to ensure you have a smooth and comfortable ultrasound experience. Proper preparation helps us capture the most accurate images for your diagnosis. Below are general guidelines to follow based on the type of ultrasound you are receiving:

  1. Abdominal Ultrasound (Liver, Gallbladder, Pancreas, Kidneys, Aorta)
  • Fasting Required: Avoid eating or drinking anything (including water) for 6-8 hours before your appointment. This reduces gas in your stomach, allowing for clearer images.
  • Medications: Take your regular medications with a small sip of water unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
  1. Pelvic Ultrasound (Uterus, Ovaries, Bladder)
  • Full Bladder Needed: Drink 32 oz. (about 1 liter) of water 1 hour before your exam. Do not urinate until after the procedure. A full bladder helps provide better visualization of pelvic organs.
  1. Breast Ultrasound
  • No Special Preparation: You can eat, drink, and take your medications as usual. Avoid applying lotion or powder on your chest area on the day of the exam.
  1. Thyroid Ultrasound
  • No Special Preparation: There are no dietary or fluid restrictions. Wear a loose-fitting top for easy access to your neck.
  1. Testicular Ultrasound
  • No Special Preparation: You can eat, drink, and take your medications as usual. Wear comfortable clothing for easy access to the area.
  1. Echocardiogram (Heart Ultrasound)
  • No Special Preparation: Continue your regular diet and medications unless your doctor provides specific instructions.
  1. Carotid Artery Ultrasound
  • No Special Preparation: Wear an open-collar or loose-fitting shirt for easy access to your neck area.
  1. Abdominal Aorta Screening
  • Fasting Required: Avoid eating or drinking for 6-8 hours before your appointment to minimize stomach gas and ensure clear imaging.

General Tips for All Ultrasound Exams:

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing. You may be asked to change into a gown for certain procedures.
  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork.
  • If you have prior imaging reports, bring them to your appointment.

At Unity Health Imaging, we understand the importance of receiving timely and accurate information. While we provide high-quality imaging services, we do not diagnose or interpret medical conditions.

The availability of your results depends on the provider you choose to review and evaluate your ultrasound. For some exams, results may be available shortly after your appointment, depending on the findings and the provider’s process.

At Unity Health Imaging, your comfort is our priority. Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive procedure that typically takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the type of exam.

During the procedure, a trained sonographer will apply a warm, water-based gel to the area being examined. This gel helps transmit sound waves for clearer imaging. A handheld device called a transducer will be gently moved over your skin to capture detailed images of your internal organs.

While ultrasound is generally painless, you may experience slight discomfort—especially during abdominal exams—if pressure is applied to capture clearer images. If you have sensitive skin, you may also feel mild pressure during the procedure.
